The Brit described his foe as ‘a little bit of a t*t’
Tyson Fury has recalled the amusing story of his encounter with American heavyweight Christopher Lovejoy once they sparred collectively before the Tom Schwarz fight.
The ‘Gypsy King’ claims he decked the unbeaten fighter within the first spherical of their session after listening to his trash speak across the US gyms.
“What occurred was, there was this massive fella, six-foot-five, 20 stone, 18-0 (18 KOs), he was extremely rated by the WBA,” Fury informed iFL TV.
“And he was saying throughout Las Vegas, all within the heavyweight gyms, ‘I’m gonna knock Tyson Fury out. He’s a bum, he’s this, he’s that.’
“So one of many trainers on the Mayweather health club mentioned, ‘Oh Tyson, there’s this man who mentioned he’s gonna knock you out.’
“He induced the difficulty, he phoned him up and mentioned, ‘Say it to his face, say it to him on the cellphone.’
“I mentioned, ‘Are you gonna knock me out, are you?’
“He mentioned, ‘Yeah, I’m.’
“I mentioned, ‘Come down and do it then.’
“So anyway I wasn’t on the health club and he turned as much as the health club. I mentioned, ‘I’ll inform you what to do, come again tomorrow and I’m gonna knock you out. If I don’t, it don’t rely.’
“He form of flapped it, didn’t know the right way to take it. However he left and he got here again tomorrow.
“My cousin mentioned, ‘I need you to drop him with a straight left hand within the first spherical.’
“I mentioned, ‘You bought it.’
“He comes operating at me, I simply went slip, growth and down he went. All 20 stone of him on the ground.”
In an earlier interview Lovejoy gave his version of events and told a very similar story, but differed massively when it came to the actual sparring session itself.
He simply told iFL TV: “We bought our work in, we shake fingers and we talked. That’s it.
“It was cool, he’s bought lots of stamina, he was precisely what I assumed he could be.”
